    Next of kin appeal 

    Police in Edinburgh are appealing for assistance to help trace relatives of a man who died in the Capital on Thursday, April 19.

    John McElhinney (57), became unwell at his home address in Dean Village and was taken to the Western General Hospital, where he passed away. There are no suspicious circumstances surrounding his death, and a report has been sent to the Procurator Fiscal.

    Mr McElhinney has no known relatives, although it is thought that he may have a brother in Vancouver, Canada. He may also have a niece or nephew.

    Anyone who has any information that can assist police in identifying relatives of Mr McElhinney should contact Lothian and Borders Police on 0131 311 3131.

    Battle of the Badges 

    Officers from Lothian and Borders Police take on officers from the famous NYPD and LAPD forces in a charity boxing match this Sunday, the event is in aid of the Cauldwell Children’s Charity and the Atlas Children’s Foundation. Facing a particulary daunting task is Detective Stevie Livingstone who will spar with ex World Heavyweight Champ Tim Witherspoon. Good luck to all the boxers.

      Pleased to say the event was a great success, with lots of money raised for charity.LBP edged out NYPD 4 bouts to 3 after a thrilling last fight. Mike Leask was delighted with result from his scratch team as this is believed to be the first defeat for the New York lads.

      Stevie Livingstone had the experience of a lifetime when he when up against ‘Terrible Tim’ and gained a draw and the respect of the former World Champion. To quote Stevie “I had the time of my life tonight. It was an amazing experience to box with Tim Witherspoon and I enjoyed every minute of it.”

    Memorabilia stolen, West Lothian 

    LBP are appealing for information following a spate of break-ins to homes in West Lothian.

    In the most recent incident, a property in Main Street, East Whitburn, was targeted sometime between 6pm and 9pm on Wednesday night (April 25), with a large number of medals, jewellery and Masonic memorabilia taken.

    The route the London 2012 Olympic torch relay… 

    The route the London 2012 Olympic torch relay will take around the UK, has been set out.

    The Olympic flame arrives in the UK on 18 May and begins its 70-day journey at Land’s End on the morning of 19 May and will pass through the Lothian and Borders area on Wednesday 13 and Thursday 14 June.

    Details of the approximate timings and route are listed in the attached PDF

      I would like to see more community police on the streets. Physical presence on the pavements is reassuring to residents and a deterrent to potential law breakers.
