Scottish Defence League and United Against Facism Marches and Rallies

Today the Scottish Defence League (SDL) will be marching in Edinburgh on Regent Road to St Andrew’s House where they will hold a rally.

United Against Fascism (UAF) will also be holding a march and rally. They will gather within the Grassmarket area and march along Victoria Street, George IV Bridge, High Street, North Bridge into Waterloo Place and thereafter to St Andrews House where they will also stage a rally.

Lothian and Borders Police, along with City of Edinburgh Council and other partners, has undertaken a significant amount of planning and a detailed policing plan will be in place for these marches which are anticipated to take place around 1pm.

The city is basking in glorious sunshine and Lothian and Borders Police aim to keep disruption to a minimum so that the general public can go about their daily business and enjoy the lovely weather.

Our priorities will be to maintain public safety, minimise disruption to public order and  facilitate the rights of freedom of assembly and speech.

Lothian and Borders Police will also provide an appropriate and proportionate response to any anti social behaviour and criminal activity, bringing those responsible to justice.

Officers from Lothian and Borders Police has been speaking to a number of community groups, local businesses and organisations leading up to this event to provide reassurance and let people know what its priorities are.
